Have you ever looked at the Parish Plan page on this site?

A draft consultation document has now been produced and can be accessed from the page above.

Please have a look and submit any comments you may have.

Full Details for the Trewoon Olympic Torch celebrations can now be seen  on the

Public Meetings & Notices page & on the Trewoon page.

The parish council covers 5 villages – Trewoon, Sticker, Polgooth, Hewaswater and Trelowth with approximately 1300 domestic properties and an electorate of around 2500. There are 13 parish councillors  5 from Trewoon, 5 from Sticker, 2 from Polgooth,  and 1 from Trelowth.

The council owns two playing fields and gives financial support by way of grants to another two. There are three village halls plus Church and Methodist halls – again the council gives an annual grant to the village associations maintaining the village halls.

The responsibility of maintaining 42 footpaths covering over 19km (about 12 miles) lies with the parish council, helped – slightly - by Cornwall Council funding.

There is one primary school in the parish - St. Mewan CP School, with about 420 pupils (clicking here will take you direct to the school website.) Improvements to the school costing c.£1.5M were completed on schedule at the end of February 2010.

The buttons to the left of the page link to more detailed information about the parish and the activities of the parish council.

Keith Savage who lives in New Zealand has been corresponding with the intention of visiting the area in August this year.   He is compiling a very impressive web site covering his ancestry ( www.savage-genealogy.com ) and hopes to gain information about his ancestors during his stay in Sticker.

Below is an extract from an article he has prepared for the Polgooth Times :-

"My grandmother Rosie ‘TONKIN' was born in Polgooth 16th June 1900 and later gave birth to my mother Joyce ‘TONKIN’ in London4th July 1920.

My Great Grandfather, Rosie’s dad was David TONKIN (1872 -1917), son of James TONKIN (1836 -1914). Their respective wives were Mabel Alice MAY (1876 -1961) and Susan JOB (1839 -1900).

Susan’s father John JOB  (1800 -1859) was Victualler of ‘The Polgooth Inn’ and this role was later taken over by his widow Elizabeth MELLOW (1810 – 1877).

I have unearthed documentation confirming that my Great, Great Grandfather James TONKIN eventually owned the inn and raised his family within its confines!

The most recent relative that I have information of is that of Vera Maud TONKIN nee TRELEAVEN thanks to an online BBC article last updated March 2003 announcing the celebration of her 100th birthday in Polgooth.

To conclude, the only photograph I have in my possession of past relatives is that of my Great Grandmother Mabel Alice Tonkin nee MAY, I have no idea what other family members looked like and I yearn for more information on any of the aforementioned surnames! "

If anyone can furnish him with any information he will be delighted - he can be reached prior to his visit on keith.savage5@xtra.co.nz
